Training for Persons with Special Needs
Persons with mental and/or physical disabilities are trained in a
variety of skills that will enable them to attain optimum quality of
life. Training is given in a
spacious, rural environment, where their safety is ensured, and
enjoyment is experienced while working amongst peers and friends.
The following categories are catered for:

Persons who are mentally
and /or physically disabled to
benefit from sheltered workshop employment. |
| 2. |
To train care givers from severely under-privileged,
informal centres for the disabled in townships in similar skills
to pass on to the disabled youth in their care. |
| 3. |
A stimulation programme for those persons who are unable to
benefit from the sheltered workshop environment. |

Workshop
Activities:
The workshops are run by a Supervisor, House
parents and other staff.

The Gateway Village is constantly seeking new sources of contract work and would welcome any enquiries in this
regard. |

Workshop I
Here the young ladies are trained by skilled
staff in embroidery, tapestry, knitting and other needlecraft.
They are assisted in turning their work into articles such as
cushions, aprons, tray cloths, greeting cards etc.
Workshop II
Here contract work is carried out which entails assembling and
packing of metal and plastic components.

The work done at The Village extends far beyond the workshop
environment, and those adults who are able, maintain the grounds and
garden, attend to the vegetable patch, assist in the kitchen, do
security shifts at our visitors entrance, and are trained to help
with many tasks in the residential units. |
